The Texas Department of Transportation claims personal information of the agency’s employees was compromised following a “security incident.”

The department allegedly discovered the breach on its automated administrative system on Friday, February 10, 2017. The Texas Department of Transportation claims the personal data of a “small number of employees” may have been accessed, altered and compromised.

The Texas transportation agency’s spokesperson Bob Kaufman told reporters the investigation is currently ongoing. The identities and motives of the attackers remain unknown at this time.

Kaufman did not disclose the number of employees whose data was compromised in the incident. “TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) leaders have worked directly with those employees affected and are taking additional steps to protect all employees,” Kaufman said in a statement.

The method of intrusion to the department’s administrative system also remains unclear at this time. OPĀQ WatchDesk team will update this post with new information accordingly.
